Harry is the third generation member of the Chase family to grow potatoes at Tyrrells Court. Harry and his team have planted several hundred acres of potatoes this year in preparation for a busy year. A wet planting season threw up the usual set of challenges, however a warm start to June has set the spuds firmly on their way, and the plants are appearing as we speak. The clay soils in Herefordshire is perfect for growing high-grade potatoes. We will shortly be harvesting our early crop – Lady Rosetta in July. The high water content of these early ‘chips nuveaux’ results in beautiful light-fry and delicate potatoey taste. If you’d like to ask Harry any questions about the farm or our potatoes, feel free to email him at harry@tyrrellspotatochips.co.uk
Happy Planters!
Lorna our Harper Adams placement student has been helping Julie plant seed potatoes with over six hundred school children this Spring. The Tyrrells ‘Seed to Chip’ campaign is now in its third year and has enjoyed fantastic success in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Worcestershire and Powys, where the school children are now mini-experts on the art of planting potatoes. Keep your eyes peeled for more news about our potato planting projects, and do let us know if you’d like some of our Tyrrells Potato Planting Tip Sheets!
